From Soup, “Lotus Flower” from Radiohead’s new album that was released today. I’ve been talking with my buddy Burt all day, both of us being obsessives when it comes to a new record from these guys and my first reaction to this is how it’s very Kid A-ish. He said it reminded him of Thom Yorke’s solo album and it is to a certain extent but even more like previous Radiohead records this has a definite uniform feeling. Like if you put all the songs together it could easily be construed as one long track, that there is a universal—I guess central is probably a better word—melody in each track with slight variations.
Look at this fucking guy. He’s a mad scientist.
I personally love “Codex” which has this hallway sound to it, playing as you walk towards your final destination.
“Reminiscent of the Beastie Boys’ Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That, more than 50 Radiohead fans captured the band’s Aug. 23 show in Prague on Flip cameras, with the resulting footage later assembled into the new Live In Praha DVD. Even better, Radiohead itself donated the soundboard masters from the performance, which means the quality is way better than you’d expect.”
GOOD NIGHT MUSIC: On a Radiohead b-side kick this week. I finally saw A Scanner Darkly, and was pleasantly surprised to hear that the entire soundtrack was done by Thom Yorke. When this track, “Fog,” started playing I just about hit the roof.
I read the book forever ago, it could possibly be one of the best science fiction books ever.
