I finished my Masters’ thesis on comics writer Grant Morrison and how he utilizes the views of Renaissance philosopher Giovanni Pico della Mirandola in his comic book work. Below you’ll find a Table of Contents of the excerpts I’ve posted from it:
- Introduction #1 and #2.
- The Scholar vs Fan: 1, 2, and 3.
- The Difference between Comics and their Film Adaptations.
- Scholarship: A Comics Studies Reader, Charles Hatfield, Paul Lopes, Hillary Chute, and Douglas Wolk.
- Pico and Morrison in Supergods: Introduction, Pico and Morrison, Dougherty and Modern Critical Discussion of Pico, on Kabbalah, Morrison’s relationships with Iain Spence, on Animal Man.
THE WORST WRITER EVER is going to be my first graphic novel, a literacy autobiography on how comics have affected my life and it speculates on the kind of person I would be if I did not have them. It’s part prose fiction, part non-fiction graphic narrative. I’ve started annotating some of the comics work that was incredibly important to me growing up.
One thing that I can say is THE COLLECTIVE is moving along, I’m co-writing it with Christopher Irving of GRAPHIC NYC and editor of the book Leaping Tall Buildings. So far we’ve released Reilly Brown’s designs for the characters.
Now that I’m back in Lake Placid, we’re slowly building a couple of things through ADK MOGUL. We’ve released our first film The Deal and we’re currently engaged in the Go Digital or Go Dark campaign to save north country independent movie theaters.
