Technical Details On How Egypt Has Shut Down Every... →
This is just unreal. Isn’t that reaction absurd? I’m afflicted with it, it always occurs when something is happening half a world away that is so real and human my reaction is to think it is not actually reality.

For me, with years of problems with PCs, I made the switch to a Mac five years ago. I still use my iBook because it simply it works and it provides me the ability to focus on stuff I care about, without thinking that my computer is going to shit the bed every year and lose everything I’ve worked on that year. (Which happened every year with my PC in college, to the point now I barely have...

When I haven’t been carrying a book with me—like Matt Gallaway’s The Metropolis Case—I’ve been reading the books I have on the Kindle on my phone, or the comics on the comiXology app. Since Saturday it’s been Mark Twain’s Autobiography and I read some of the extensive discussions the editors have about Twain’s effort to organize his life and make it presentable but the editors really draw...

Congratulations to David E. Kelley on Wonder... →
Did you know that he is also responsible for letting loose the movie that only exists in my nightmares…Lake Placid? I don’t know if I’ve told this story before but the summer of 1999, when this movie came out, I worked at a private beach for the Lake Placid Holiday Inn (ahem: apparently it is now called The Crowne Royal) doing boat rentals and I swear to God, every fucking day I...

– From John Fante’s Ask The Dust. My boss gave me this book as a Christmas present and while I read it last weekend I marveled at his telepathy to give me the exact present I needed to have at that point. This book is about the struggles of writer Arturo Bandini as he begins to make a name for...

We comic folk are used to being fans of a medium that’s so often viewed as the...
– Jason Aaron reacts to Darren Aronofsky’s comments on “The Fountain” comic book. This is pretty sharp and kind of articulates why some of the film adaptations of comic books don’t work that well. Watchmen for example, when taking a comic book and translating it directly to...

Anne Hathaway to play Catwoman in next Batman →
Batman has found a nemesis for his next cinematic adventure – and it looks like a love interest, too. On Wednesday, Warner Brothers Pictures announced the first new cast members for “The Dark Knight Rises,” the third Batman movie to be directed by Christopher Nolan, the “Inception” and “Memento” filmmaker. Joining Christian Bale, who returns as Batman and his daytime alter ego, Bruce Wayne, is...

Green Hornet.
Was great fun, a little on the cheesy side but that’s to be expected. Cheesy-fun, I would say and alternative to your standard super hero fare, which is refreshing. The only irksome thing about the thing was the fact that it was seventeen dollars for the only version the film came in: 3D. As far as I could tell the only 3D in the entire thing was the end credits, which just furthers my rabid...

Type professionals can get amusingly—if justifiably—overworked about spaces....
– Why Two Spaces after a period is wrong. This is pretty interesting, I don’t know about all of you but I never questioned my unequivocally incorrect method of two spaces after a sentence because I was taught that way, as the article covers, and I never questioned it. Why would I? Seems like...

Download Aaron Sorkin's THE SOCIAL NETWORK... →
You definitely want to read this script. I read it over the summer and it’s basically a West Wing script but instead of White House staffers it’s Tech Nerds. Depending on your preference that’s either incredibly interesting or not at all which, I’ll admit, at first I couldn’t give a shit about the subject matter. Sorkin was the entry-point for me and he did exactly...

The Diary Project →
My former co-worker at Marvel, Damiella, has started a blog where she annotates selections from the diaries she kept in the early-to-mid-90s. A fun read. I was thinking about doing something like this when I was home over the holidays going through the notebooks and files from high school and college but, well, I figured I’d spare all of you anymore of my bullshit, especially my dribble...

My friend Lisa, someone I’ve adventured with throughout England, analyzed Aaron Sorkin to the Nth Degree, has finally, actually, convinced me to read Jonathan Franzen has written something for the Scholars and Rogues website that I support one thousand percent.
Specifically, the rally against New Years Resolutions:
I also hate people who say, “My New Year’s Resolution is to stop...

Much like Josh’s, is to have my phone on silent more and have it in a drawer so I don’t feel guilty when I ignore calls.
