The Best Stuff of the Year:
Just flexing a bit to wake up. Below is a list of highlights of the year for me, and various things that I loved this year.
Books, I loved:
Lush Life by Richard Price.
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. To which I owe my girlfriend for introducing him to me, he’s enlightened my life and I owe that to you, dear.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
And that’s about all ‘cause the...

Oh, also:
To the last post. I really liked Regina’s “End of the OOs” post too, and Natasha’s. For whatever reason Regina’s post didn’t show up like it was linked. Weird. Hopefully it works now.

– Profile on Obama’s Chief Speechwriter, Jon Favreau, while he was working on the Inaugural Address.
It’s been pretty interesting for me to read about this young speech writer in the White House, and his transition there. To say the least, it’s been inspiring.

From William Gibson's SPOOK COUNTRY.
He looked up at the dark skylight and tried to feel New York. Trucks were rattling over metal on Canal Street, he told himself. Trains blowing past, beneath the pavement, though a maze his family had mapped with exquisite care. He had come to own in a sense; every corner of every platform, every line of sight, many keys, storage closets, lockers; a theater for appearances and disappearances. He...

Implosion of the Lake Champlain Bridge from New York to Vermont. Sad to see it go, I have fond memories driving over that bridge looking for the Lake Champlain monster. See also: Loch Ness.

Help a Social Studies teacher get a Projector for... →
One of my best friends from St. Bonaventure, a Social Studies teacher in Ridgewood, Queens, needs your help. As a lot of you may or may not know, education funds for New York City Public Schools are despicably low, and my friend needs as much help as he can get to gain an important tool to help inspire the kids in his class. Make with the clicky above for some further context. Thanks to all who...

Highlights.
This is the view from out my kitchen window back home. Completely refreshing to be home now, currently listening to the rough cut of Eminem’s new album, which I have to say I don’t care for. That one track with the fire truck horn is especially terrible.
Went bob sledding today for the first time, my stomach is currently still somewhere in my throat area, but we made it down the...

It’s the ‘Two and a Half Men’ for a younger generation.
I’m waiting for people to realize that about “Glee” and they go back to the better version: “Freaks and Geeks.”

Holidays 2009.
I’m off for the semester. Thank God. So there will be some posting here, mostly of my favorite things from the past year, but probably not much, because I’ll be upstate starting tomorrow through the weekend. I’ll mostly be focusing on a couple of things until the beginning of 2010.
Finishing my first novel (and seeing if I have to rewrite the whole damn thing so it resembles...

1. Batman Returns
Dude. Die Hard.
Life of Brian. Duh.
While I agree very strongly with all this, I must say that Home for the Holidays is actually an exceptional movie that is, like Die Hard, really about the spirit of the holidays. (Honestly I love that movie...

Hot Tub Time Machine trailer. This could go either way, but I think whatever direction it ends up going in is a direction that I’ll enjoy. I’m shallow, what can I say? This movie comes out sometime in March.
Write drunk; edit sober.
– Ernest Hemingway (via bibliotheque)
Love that. My other favorite of his: “Always do sober what you said you’d do drunk, that will teach you to keep your mouth shut.” I have it printed on a pint glass.
